The Provincial Government of Ifugao (PGI) held a ground-breaking ceremony and blessing of a 5 hectare lot for the construction of Ifugao Sports Complex located at Cadel, Poblacion South, Lagawe on October 2, 2020.
Representative to the Lone District of Ifugao Solomon R. Chungalao, Governor Jerry U. Dalipog together with Department of Tourism (DA)-Cordillera Regional Director Jovita Gonongan, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP)-Cordillera Regional Director Manuel Jaramilla, Department of Public Works and Highways (NCIP)-Cordillera Regional Director Khadaffy Tanggol, Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Cordillera Regional Director Albert Mogol, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Cordillera Regional Director Marlo Iringan, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Cordillera Regional Director Ralph Pablo, National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-Cordillera Regional Director Benito Espique, Jr. and Department of Agriculture (DA)-Cordillera Regional Director Cameron Odsey represented by Provincial Coordinating Officer Charlamagne Monayao led the ground-breaking ceremony which was officiated by Fr. Revyn Tuguinay. It was witnessed by heads of the Provincial Local Government Unit, national agencies, municipal and barangay officials and the public.
The sports complex will serve as a venue for bigger sports activities in the Province which will eventually also cater to regional and national event that could boost tourism industry and alleviate the economic status of the people.
In his opening message, Vice-Governor Glenn Prudenciano informed that executive and legislative decided to purchase the lot worth PhP50 Million for the construction of the Ifugao Sports complex which is located at the Capital Town. He also said that the development of the place is not only for the Ifugao Sports Complex but will also serve as development center in the Province where other structures will be established like trading post and food terminal.
“Let us help one another in the development of the said plans with the help of the national agencies who are here today and with our cooperation, the potential of our Province in the Cordillera will be as great compared to other provinces,” he added.
On the other hand, Representative to the Lone District of Ifugao Solomon R. Chungalao said in his message committed to look for funding and support the program of the PLGU.
“I ask all to cooperate regardless of political inclination for the sake of the Province. For the moment, let us put our hands together to uplift our Province and through enough, let us solve our problems within and not in the social media,” Representative Chungalao added.
Governor Jerry Dalipog, in his message, explained to those present that there is a need for a sports complex in the Province. He said that the executive and legislative had a meeting to discuss on what to do to have a sports complex since Ifugao has not yet bidded for the venue of the Cordillera Administrative Regional Athletic Association meet.
Governor Dalipog further encouraged everyone to help one another, especially the barangay officials of Poblacion South, to settle the issues on the road-right-of-way so that when the project is to be implimented, the construction will not be hampered.
The said ground-breaking ceremony of the Ifugao Sports Complex is one of the priority infrastructure projects of the PGI.
Meanwhile, in the same event, OCD-Cordillera Regional Director Albert Mogol turned-over check assistance to beneficiaries through the Provincial Governor.
The said assistance amounting to PhP700, 000 will be distributed to victims of Typhoon Ompong in the Province which occurred last 2018 for their livelihood and shelter assistance. The assistance came from the donations from the National Government of South Korea and People’s Republic of China. –Sunshine H. Winnan
